Letting Go – The Master Key System – Weeks 3 & 4

Letting Go - The Master Key System - Weeks 3 & 4

You can let go of all negativity easily and quickly.  One of the great secrets of life is letting go and realizing that it is actually that simple and easy to do.  Negative thoughts and feeling do not have a hold of us, we hold on to them.  It is within your control to let go.

This is a summary and review of my experience reading and applying the 3rd & 4th chapters of Charles Haanel’s The Master Key System (free pdf download).  This book was originally intended to be a weekly correspondence course, with each chapter being the focus of one week.  I am following this original intention of the author.  You can read the summary of each chapter and my reflections here.

So far, four weeks into this course, I have found The Master Key System to be one of the most profound books I have ever read.  Most of what has been said I have already discovered within myself, however the words are so clear and the author is such a terrific wordsmith that, with each read, I am gaining further clarity and insight into the innerworkings of the mind and the universe.

In part three, Haanel continues by explaining the physical structure of the conscious and subconscious mind.  He states, what modern science has confirmed that the cerebro-spinal system in the channel through which our conscious mind, centered in the brain, perceives and interacts with the outside world as well as our physical bodies.  This is not hard for most of us to accept.

Then he goes on to explain that the area called the Solar Plexus, which is a ganglionic mass of nerves behind the stomach, is the center of the subconscious mind.  He likens the Solar Plexus to the sun of the body, in that it is the source of life, heat and energy for the body.  It is from here that life comes into the body and is distributed.  And, it connects with the brain through the vagus nerve.  The Solar Plexus is also the point of contact with the source of all life, with the universal creative energy which Quantum Physics is now grappling to comprehend.

He then explains, what modern psychology has supported (and advertisers know for certain), that the subconscious mind does not analyze, probe, argue or debate.  It simply accepts as truth that which the conscious mind believes as truth.  It accepts the conclusions of the conscious mind as final.

In here is a truth of such immense importance, I will restate it in another way.  The subconscious mind, which is molds you and your future, only knows truth.  But it only knows truth from your perspective.  Whatever you consciously know to be true, will become true for you.

If you grow up absolutely believing that dogs are dangerous, for example, your automatic reactions to dogs will be one of fear.  This is why people with multiple personalities truly believe that they are actually different people.  And also explains why it has been documented that those with the disorder can instantly change physical characteristics such as eye color or the disappearance and reappearance of moles and birthmarks.

That is the power of your subconscious mind.

Haanel reasons that, your Solar Plexus, the center of energy and the subconscious mind, is the point of contact with the source of all life and energy.  And, your subconscious mind can be programmed and directed by your conscious mind.  Therefore, this energy may be controlled and directed by you, by conscious thought.

So, how do we do this?  Very simply, we mentally concentrate on what we want in life.  We use our imagination and make it as real as possible in our minds.

To strengthen our minds we should think positively, such as thoughts of courage, confidence, growth, strength, expansion, love and hope.  This, he says, expands and frees up the flow and distribution of energy from the Solar Plexus.

The opposite thoughts interrupt and block the flow of energy; those of anger, hatred, lack and, most destructive of all, fear.

This line of thinking is very much in tune with Eastern religious and medical practices.  And Western medicine has shown time and again that nothing is more destructive to our bodies than stress and tension, which are the result of fear, anger, over-exhaustion and hate.

In other words, you determine your health and your destiny based on the thoughts you think.

The exercise for the week is as follows:

“For your exercise this week, I will ask you to go one step further.  I want you to not only be perfectly still, and inhibit all thought as far as possible, but relax, let go, let the muscles take their normal condition.”

Physical relaxation allows everything to flow smoothly in the body.  Tension leads to tight muscles, restricted blood and lymphy flow and mental unrest, which leads to worry, fear and anxiety.

When I did this each day, I realized that I often tense the muscles in my jaw, even when the rest of me is relaxed.  For the first couple days I struggled to keep my jaw muscles relaxed.  I would relax them, my attention would go elsewhere for a while and, when I again noticed my jaw it was tensed up again.

After doing this exercise a few days it became much easier to consciously relax my jaw.  I can already feel a new habit of a relaxed jaw forming.

Week 4

In week four, Haanel begins by clarifying that the “I” of you is not the physical body, it is not your mind and it is not your personality.  Perhaps it can best be called consciousness.  And it is this consciousness which has the option of taking over as master and transforming your life, if it uses its tools of mind and body constructively.

When our minds mature, we realize that every selfish thought contains seeds of destruction and difficulty.  The mature mind understands the interconnectedness of everything and realizes that all transactions must benefit everyone involved.

Trying to profit at another’s expense or attempting to cheat another is like the thumb trying to cheat the ringfinger.  In the end, it will hurt them both for their wellbeing is intertwined.  When you realize this, then you can eliminate thoughts of such kind.  In doing so, you no longer waste time and energy on that which brings you no benefit.

In order to mature your mind, one of the most effective things you can do is to repeat, as often as possible, the following affirmation:

I can be what I will to be.”

And, he continues, do not start this unless you plan to keep at it, because if you start something and don’t finish it, you form the habit of failure.

Never allow the “I” to be overruled.  If you make a decision, see it through to the end.  Let nothing stand in the way of its completion.  The thing is settled, it has been decided, there is no longer any argument.

This is an idea of immense power.  If you practice the habit it doing this you will come to control yourself and the world within which controls the world without.

All living beings are manifestations of the Universal and the Universal is constantly trying to express itself and to be of service and it will seek the channel through which it can have the greatest impact.  To become such a channel, you must become one who has control over themself.  You must gain mental strength.

Mental strength is developed the same way in which physical strength is: exercise.  We think something with difficulty the first time.  The more we think it, the easier it is to think.  If we think it enough it becomes habit, then automatic.  Now we are certain of it, we believe it, we know it to be true.

The exercise for week four is as follows:

“Last week I asked you to relax, to let go physically.  This week, I am going to ask you to let go mentally…remove all tension by completely relaxing, then mentally let go of all adverse conditions, such as hatred, anger, worry, jealousy, envy, sorrow, trouble or disappointment of any kind.”

Once again, like any exercise, the first time I tried this it was a bit difficult and it became easier and easier each successive day.  Like the other exercises, I did it for 15-20 minutes every day, as Haanel instructed.

I am fortunate that I have already practiced this for many years and, as such, did not have trouble in putting this to practice.  It is now quite easy for me to consciously let go of negativity.  And this, just like everything else, is a result of exercise and practice.

And, you may protest that you cannot simply “let go” of such negative feelings and thoughts.  However, I can say from experience that you actually can.  It is much easier than we allow ourselves to believe.  We think negative thoughts and feelings have a hold on us.  But the opposite is in fact true, we are holding on to them.  And, truly, all we need to do is to let go.

Spread the love :)
