How I Transformed My Life In One Day

James Allen

Millions of people have experienced the power of James Allen’s book “As A Man Thinketh”.  It has been cited by generations of prosperity and success authors and has touched hearts for over a century.  In this incredible short classic (which is in the public domain and is available on youtube here) there is a quote which transformed my life in one day:

“Let a man radically alter his thoughts, and he will be astonished at the rapid transformation it will effect in the material conditions of his life…Let a man cease from his sinful thoughts, and all the world will soften towards him, and be ready to help him; let him put away his weakly and sickly thoughts, and lo, opportunities will spring up on every hand to aid his strong resolves; let him encourage good thoughts, and no hard fate shall bind him down to wretchedness and shame.”

I can still remember vividly, pacing back and forth repeating the first sentence over and over.  Within me rose an overwhelming feeling of conviction to transform my life.  I started to think about all of the things I was unhappy with and a fire of determination boiled over in my soul.  I ran out the door and kept running.  I kicked off my shoes and ran until my feet were bloody.  I stumbled and fell.  As I arose, bloody and battered, a flame was burning forth from my eyes.  I resolved to master my thoughts.  I went home and wrote down a list of everything I would no longer allow in my life.  I also wrote down what I wanted in my life.

From that day on, I often feel as if mighty gods are floating behind my ears, ready and waiting to receive and execute my orders.  I had discovered the exciting adventure that comes from the pursuit of mastery.

From then on, I have tried to maintain a watchfulness over my thoughts and emotions.  I attempt to do what James Allen said: radically alter my thoughts.  I stand at the sentry of my mind, allowing in only positivity.  Of course, negative thoughts crept in here and there, but I keep reminding myself of my goal.  Everytime I notice a negative thought, I redirect my mind and look for a positive one to replace it.

I have noticed that, as I alter my thoughts towards my circumstances and other people, my circumstances and other people alter towards me.  By only allowing good and empowering thoughts, my world has been transformed.  I am changing the world around me.  James Allen was right, I was astonished and I was convinced.  My life has never been the same since.

Thoughts have much more power than we realize.  But please don’t just believe me, or James Allen.  Try it for yourself and see, and a whole new beautiful world, with you on the throne of your mind, will open up before you.  For some practical tips on how to do this see my post on How to Become a Positive Thinker.
